It is with great shock to learn of the demise of Gilbert from dad in Mansa. MYSRIP.
My deepest condolences to Karin, and the children Kafita and Emily. I pray that the Lord guides you all in this darkest hour.
Gilbert, tata, you were a great inspiration, unforgettable you will be. You have helped shape my future especially during those youthful days, bringing me up when I was down.
My thoughts are also with the Kombe family; Clement and his family. I pray that the Lord guides you all, as we all arrange to put Gilbert to rest.
Help us our Lord, the Almighty.

I think that all of us knowing Gilbert are under shock hearing these incredible sad news! His spirit, his smille, his energy and his positive approach towards life and work, seemed to be immortal….. and yet, one more time, we were wrong!!!! It is a huge loss for all of us,but first of all,for his family, wife and children!
I am so so sorry and sad! I hope we will all keep him in our mind and remember him as he was during his life and, how he will be probably be somewhere up there!

I just learnt of the passing of Gilbert Kombe. This is a terrible news. I had known Gilbert since his MPH student days at George Washington University, DC and had become colleagues with him when he joined the global health health faculty.
Gilbert was a tireless advocate of strengthening health systems worldwide and HIV/AIDS programs in impoverished communities around the world. He was also a leader on global health workforce issues. He and another colleague contributed a fascinating chapter of health workf force issues in Africa to the special edition of a journal that I edited. Throughout the editorial process, Gilbert was as always meticulous in preparation and dignified in making his point on editorial decisions he disagreed with. He always made his point based on facts available to him.
The global health community has lost a dedicated member and advocate. Individuals and organizations working on health care issues in Africa have also lost a tireless champion.
I wish Gilbert’s family God’s protection and blessing as we all mourn the loss of a dignified gentleman.

Gilbert, You were indeed a great friend and a man that stood up for all. You did a lot in Zambia and I remeber the Kitwe days when you were at Kitwe Central Hospital. You were a uniting factor in our team and this could been seen whenever you visited ZED. May your soul rest in peace.

I knew Gilbert for a short time and I found him a very inspiring person. His passing will be missed by all who knew him. His work should continue to be an inspiration to all health proffessionals working on health systems strengthening.
He set a good example of how to work with all levels of people in any setting and country.
My prayers go to his family. May they find strength in his greatness.
